R Charles Snyder Salute Set For September 1-2

White City, Oregon...It's time once again for the 2nd Annual R Charles Snyder Salute for the IMCA Modifieds. The two-race weekend will again feature the IMCA Modifieds with a $5,000 to win prize being offered up on Sunday night. IMCA Sport Modifieds and Southern Oregon Dwarf Cars will compete on both nights, and the Calculated Comfort Outlaw Pro Stocks will be there on Sunday.
Snyder was a popular local Radio DJ for some 40 years who also lent his voice to several fundraising events through the years and helped organize some big rock concerts. He was also considered the voice of Southern Oregon racing for many years as he announced at Southern Oregon Speedway, Medford Speedway before that and other venues. He passed away in 2015, and this race was added to the 2017 schedule to pay tribute to the man. The Race Tower was dedicated to him at the 2017 event.
The format calls for two sets of heat races for both the IMCA Modified and IMCA Sport Modified divisions on Saturday that will score finishing points and passing points to determine the drivers who make the Main Event on Sunday and who will end up in the B & C Mains. The top eight point runners in the heat races will redraw for their Main Event starting positions.
As an added bonus, Saturday will also have an Invitational Main Event for both classes that will offer prize money. The Top 3-5 finishers in the first set of heat races will automatically make it into that race. This format was chosen rather than a Race Of Champions format as a way to allow all of the drivers an opportunity to compete for something else at the end of the Saturday night program. The IMCA Modifieds will pay $1,000 to win, $700 for second, $500 for third and a minimum of $100 to start on Saturday, while the Sport Modifieds will offer the regular $300 to win prize money with a minimum of $50 to start.
Sunday's Main Events are where the money is on the line, and the IMCA Modifieds are set to pay $5,000 to win as of this writing. The Sport Modifieds are going to be paying $1,000 to win. That is as it stands at this time, and the numbers could go up by race day. The Modifieds will pay $2500 for second and $1500 for third, and the drivers will win at least $200 to start the Main Event. The Sport Modified Main Event pays $700 for second and $500 for third with a minimum of $100 to start. There will also be lap leader bonus money for both Main Events.
Last season, Bobby Hogge IV started off with a $1,000 IMCA Modified Invitational Feature win, but an early spin in the big money race forced him to play catch up all race long. Troy Foulger led most of the way aboard the Bill Bowers Modified for the biggest win of his career. Seven time track champion Mark Wauge was second with Hogge closing in fast in third.
The IMCA Sport Modifieds don't get many $1,000 to win opportunities, and two time track champion Jorddon Braaten made the most of it. Last year, he won the Invitational Feature and followed it up with a dominating win in the big show. Alan Furuta had his biggest payday ever with a $700 second as reigning Oregon State champion Jayson Nelson was a $500 third.
