City, Oregon...The Cascade Wingless 360 Sprint Car Challenge Race will
be coming to Southern Oregon Speedway on August 25th. This event pits
some of the best Wingless 360 Sprint Car drivers against each other in a
great battle with a $3,500 prize awaiting the other end of the
checkered flag. The race is once again being presented by Herz Precision
Parts.
This
will once again be the biggest Wingless Sprint Car Race in the State of
Oregon. Drivers will be receiving a minimum $250 to start the Main
Event. Second and third place will be receiving nice prizes of $1,500
and $1,000, respectively. Last season, it was Cody Fendley grabbing a
$1,500 payday in second, while Oregon star Kyle Miller was a $1,000
third.
The
star of the night was the driver they call The Human Highlight Reel,
Geoff Ensign. He led most of the way driving for Ted Finkenbinder. Geoff
and Ted are again teaming up to defend their race championship this
year. A few weeks ago, he picked up a win at Petaluma Speedway with the
wing on the car. Ensign was the 2017 Petaluma and Watsonville Sprint Car
champion, and he enjoys racing Sprint Cars, with or without the wing.
The
night will start off with qualifying on the clock. There are a couple
of things at stake in time trials. The fastest qualifier will receive a
$100 bonus. The Top 2 qualifiers earn the right to skip heat races and
go into the eight lap Scramble to determine the front rows of the big
money Main Event. The rest of the competitors will run the 10 lap heat
races with the Top 2 finishers also going into the Scramble. A 15 lap B
Main will be run if needed to determine the final starting positions in
the feature.
The
inaugural race last season featured a 22 car turn out and one heck of a
race. Running Sprint Cars without the wing requires a different driving
style and makes for some exciting racing throughout the pack. Drivers
are expressing interest, and this show should be bigger than last year.
Entry is $80 for Car and Driver. Pit passes are $30 for the crew. Sign
in is at 4 p.m., and time trials are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. For further
