Deubert Opens Southern Oregon Speedway
Late Model Season With Impressive Victory

White City, Oregon...May 12...Taking the lead from reigning champion Nathan Augustine on lap 20, Miles Deubert went on to win the 25 lap Late Model Main Event Saturday night at Southern Oregon Speedway. Deubert is the 2014 Street Stock champion and won a pair of Pro Stock Main Events at the track in 2016. His win came aboard the car that Kyle Coen drove to the 2017 Madras Speedway championship.

A disappointing heat race effort put Deubert back in the fourth row for the Main Event, and John Dees charged into the lead at the start ahead of Mike Linder and Augustine. By lap four, the flying Dees had a half straightaway lead, and Augustine made an inside pass in Turn 4 of the sixth lap to take second from Linder. Moments later, John Dees spun in Turn 4 to lose the lead. Augustine led Linder on the restart as Deubert was already up to third. Deubert slipped underneath Linder in Turn 2 of the 11th lap to take over second. At that point, Augustine had about a half straight away lead, but Deubert steadily reeled him in. Deubert caught Augustine and made an inside pass in Turn 4 of the 20th lap to take the lead. Meanwhile, John Dees was making his charge back to the podium as he battled Linder for third. An inside pass in Turn 3 of the final lap gained John Dees the third position. Deubert ran smoothly down the stretch and scored a well-earned victory in his first start in a full on Late Model. Augustine settled for second ahead of John Dees, Linder and Garrett Dees.

Linder held off Augustine to win the first six lap heat race, and John Dees outran brother Garrett Dees to win the second heat. The Late Models will be part of the program this Saturday night. For further information, go to www.southernoregonspeedway.com.

First Win For Ashtin Hedges In JOAT Labs Hornets
At Southern Oregon Speedway

White City, Oregon...May 12...Ashtin Hedges scored his first career JOAT Labs Hornets Main Event win Saturday night at Southern Oregon Speedway. The talented teen leadfoot won his heat race earlier in the evening and went flag-to-flag for the victory in the 20 lap feature. It was no gimme as Hedges had to hold off reigning champion Jason Stoutenburgh and season opener winner Brandon Wonsyld down the stretch. Wonsyld made a late move past Stoutenburgh to finish second. The Hornets were one of the four 4-cylinder divisions in action as part of the Four Cylinder Frenzy event.

The wins belonged to the Hedges family in the heat races as Jenna Hedges won the first six lapper ahead of Dylan Irving and Ashtin Hedges outran Stoutenburgh in the second heat. Irving beat Stoutenburgh to win the four lap Trophy Dash.

Ashtin Hedges charged into the lead at the start of the Main Event, followed by Stoutenburgh and Jenna Hedges. The younger Hedges and Stoutenburgh quickly pulled away for a two car battle as Wonsyld moved in to battle Jenna Hedges for third. An inside pass in Turn 4 of the sixth lap gained Wonsyld the third position, and Irving slipped off the track in Turn 3 for a lap seven yellow flag. Ashtin Hedges continued to lead Stoutenburgh and Wonsyld on the restart. It was a three-car battle out front as Derrel Nelson Jr ran fourth ahead of Jenna Hedges. On lap 13, contact sent Irving into the front wall as he got his front wheels into the air and landed hard. Irving was okay. Nelson pitted with a flat tire. Ashton Hedges continued to lead Stoutenburgh and Wonsyld on the restart. Hedges pulled away just a little bit as Wonsyld was pressuring Stoutenburgh for second. An inside pass in Turn 2 of the final lap gained Wonsyld the runner up spot. However, there was no stopping Ashtin Hedges as he won ahead of Wonsyld, Stoutenburgh, Jenna Hedges, Tim Hedges, Chris Boynton, Zach Nelson, Ethan Doty, Brea Tricthler and John Ferreira, all on the lead lap.

The Hornets will be back in action as part of the big June 2nd Roger Haudenshild Tribute Race. For further information, go to www.southernoregonspeedway.com.

Steele Continues To Roll In Mini Stocks
At Southern Oregon Speedway

White City, Oregon...May 12...David Steele scored his second win of the year and his fifth consecutive win in Mini Stock competition at Southern Oregon Speedway. This was also the eighth consecutive time that Steele won the Main Event that he started when you count his starts in Yreka. Steele won the 20 lap Main Event, six lap heat race and four lap Trophy Dash for a clean sweep. The Mini Stock division was one of the four 4-cylinder cylinder classes in action as part of the Four Cylinder Frenzy event

The four lap Trophy Dash turned out to be a good battle between reigning champion Kristopher Mix, 2013 champion Steve Goetz and Steele. Steele prevailed ahead of Goetz. Mechanical issues put Garrett Fredrickson on the trailer early and the division lost two more cars after the heat race. Rookie Cameron Hall got sideways exiting Turn 2 in his heat race and was T-boned hard by Goetz. The famous #007 Pinto Wagon had its door caved in. Hall was okay, but the car is heading to the scrap yard. The team is working to get him a new ride. Steele prevailed in the heat race ahead of Mix.

Steele would lead all 20 laps of the Main Event with Mix in pursuit. The battle was for third as Hunter Magnan held the position until spinning on lap 11. Michael McCloud took over the spot after another Magnan spin on lap 14. Worried that he would receive a black flag for another yellow flag, Magnan gathered it back up and chased McCloud down once again. He made the pass for third on lap 19. Steele picked up the win ahead of Mix, Magnan and McCloud.

The Mini Stocks will be competing as part of the racing program this Saturday night. For further information, go to www.southernoregonspeedway.com.

Eric Aos Wins Valley Stor-All Late Model Lites Feature
At Southern Oregon Speedway

White City, Oregon...May 12...Eric Aos scored of the victory in the 20 lap Valley Stor-All Late Model Lites Main Event Saturday night at Southern Oregon Speedway. The Late Model Lites were one of the four 4 cylinder divisions in action as part of the Four Cylinder Frenzy event.

It was Eric Aos winning the six lap heat race ahead of Greg Arnold. Arnold is racing this season in honor of good friend and past Southern Oregon Speedway Pro Stock competitor Tim Law, who passed away during the offseason. He has changed his car number to #39 in honor of Law.

In the Main Event, Eric Aos moved into the lead at the start ahead of Arnold. Aos was starting to pull away, leaving Arnold, Dusty Aos and Charlie Eaton to battle for second. Eaton had been battling with mechanical issues all night. The only yellow flag of the feature flew on lap 12 as Arnold had slipped off the pace from second and stalled with mechanical issues. Eric Aos continued to lead his son Dusty on the restart, but Eaton was running closely behind the younger Aos. As they worked the final lap, Eaton finally made his move underneath Dusty Aos for second in Turn 2. However, Eric Aos would not be denied as he won ahead of Eaton, Dusty Aos and Arnold.

The Valley Stor-All Late Model Lites will be back again as part of this Saturday night's racing program. For further information, go to www.southernoregonspeedway.com.

Wagner Wins Pro 4 West Modified Race
At Southern Oregon Speedway

White City, Oregon...May 12...Rick Wagner scored the victory in the 20 lap Pro 4 West Modified Main Event Saturday night at Southern Oregon Speedway. Wagner and Barry Lampert put on a good battle for most of the race before Lampert was forced to settle for second.

For years, the Pro 4 West Modified division raced outdoors at most of the venues throughout Oregon. In recent seasons, they've been running the Salem Indoors Winter Series, and the last four championships have gone to members of the Ferrando family. Family patriarch Papa Tom Ferrando has coordinated this effort and he won the Indoor championship in 2017.

Barry Lambert outran Rick Wagner to win the six lap heat race. Wagner was debuting a new Pinto for this race. This was part of the Four Cylinder Frenzy event, and with their bigger tires, the Pro 4 West Modifieds timed in quicker than the track's regular Mini Stock class.

Lampert set the early pace in the Main Event ahead of Wagner. However, Wagner spun in Turn 2 to hand second to previous Medford winner Tobey Ferrando ahead of reigning Salem Indoor champion Thomas Ferrando. Wagner did not wait for a yellow. Papa Tom Fernando was struggling at the back of the pack trying to diagnose the issues with his car as he was lapped early along with Chris Tofte. A lap five caution flag flew when Wagner spun for a second time. Tobey Ferrando made a pit stop. Lampert continued to set the pace as Wagner moved in to challenge him for the lead. The two leaders had a good battle up front, and Wagner made an inside pass in Turn 2 of the 13th lap to gain the lead. There was a yellow flag for debris on lap 15, and Wagner continued to lead Lampert on the restart. There was no stopping Wagner at that point as he won with Lampert a strong second and Thomas Ferrando is solid third. Tofte, Papa Tom Ferrando and Tobey Ferrando rounded out the finishing order.

Word is that the Pro 4 West Modifieds will be invited back for a return engagement next season. If you want to keep up on what's going on with the group, look up the Pro 4 West Modifieds on Facebook. At Southern Oregon Speedway

White City, Oregon...May 12...As advertised, the first of four scheduled Chris Silva Painting Destruction Derbies took place at Southern Oregon Speedway Saturday night. Drivers were competing for a $500 winner take all prize and a trophy. The track hopes to establish this as a part of the roster of divisions at the speedway.

Though the field was a bit light for the first Derby, the track was wet and the three competitors came out to end the night's activity with a bang. In competition for this one were Dave Sauer, Dillon Sauer and Chris Silva. The competitors took shots at each other to see who would be the last one standing. In the end, it was Dave Sauer rising above the rest for the $500 win and trophy.
