Hudson Ends Season With First Sprint Car Victory At Southern Oregon Speedway

Hudson Ends Season With First Sprint Car Victory
At Southern Oregon Speedway

White City, Oregon...Fifteen year old Jeffrey Hudson drove a great race to win his first career 25 lap Pennzoil Winged Sprint Car Main Event Saturday night at Southern Oregon Speedway.  As Hudson wrapped up his rookie season with a win, Rowdy McClennon finished a solid second.  By taking the green flag, Jake Wheeler wrapped up the championship.

Rocky Nash won his second 20 lap Valley Boys Auto Sales Outlaw Pro Stock Main Event after leader Scott Flowers crashed with his wife Ginny in Turn 2 with two laps to go.  Matt Harlow enjoyed a season best second place finish.

Not even three yellow flags could derail new champion Lee Doty as he won his fifth 25 lap Super 4's Main Event.  Trophy Dash winner Charlie Eaton had a season best second place finish.

David Steele took the lead from the start and went on to win his sixth 20 lap Mini Stock Main Event of the season.  Andrew Hall was second for the second straight week, while Bob Burkett wrapped up his first division championship.

Jeffrey Hudson and Wayne Kniffen both had good starts as Sprint Car heat race winners, while Kniffen also won the Trophy Dash.  Hudson raced into the Main Event lead ahead of Kniffen at the start.  Kniffen surrendered second to Rowdy McClennon on lap 12.  McClennon was trailing by a straightaway at that point, and he began to reel Hudson in a little bit at the time.  However, Hudson was never really threatened as he scored the popular victory.  McClennon settled for second ahead of Raquel Ivie, Jeremy Lowe and Kniffen.

Rocky Nash won a wild 20 lap Outlaw Pro Stock Main Event after leader Scott Flowers crashed in Turn 2 with two laps to go.  James Flowers had a new motor in his car and led at the stat of the Main Event.  During a lap nine lap caution period, James Flowers pitted with a flat tire, and his father Scott Flowers raced by Nash for the lead.  A red flag flew on lap 23 for a fire under the hood of the James Flowers car.  The restart lap ended badly for S. Flowers as he crashed with hs wife Ginny and daughter Julia in Turn 2.  Nash found himself in the lead and withstood the challenge of Matt Harlow for the victory.  John Bowers finished third, and Roy Bain made a last turn pass on Ken Irving to finish fourth.

David Steele enjoyed a good battle with Andrew Hall all night in the Mini Stocks as these two drivers were also battling for third in the standings.  While Bob Burkett celebrated his track championship with his sixth four lap Trophy Dash win of the year, Hall held off Steele for second.  Steele passed Hall on the last lap to win their six lap heat race.  Steele then jumped into the lead at the start of the 20 lap Main Event with Hall a solid second.  As Steele led the way without much pressure from Hall, Hall repelled a serious challenge from Dillen Lausen to protect third in the final standings.  Lausen took the checkered flag with was a career best third place finish ahead of Burkett and Kristopher Mix.

Lee Doty has been unstoppable in Super 4's competition, and that trend continued with his fifth 25 lap Main Event win.  After winning his heat race with a last lap pass on Charlie Eaton, Doty had the pole for the Main Event.  He built up big leads after three yellow flag periods and won the race by a straightaway over a season best second for Eaton.  Krista Hadley won her heat race and held off a challenge from her husband Terry Hadley for third during the feature.  She then had to contend with a last lap pass attempt from John Barger.  However, K. Hadley held on for third ahead of Barger and T. Hadley.
