Southern Oregon Speedway Season Opener Saturday

White City, Or...Southern Oregon Speedway opens the 2019 racing season Saturday May 4th. Beginning it's fourth season under the helm of long time race promoter Mike McCann, There is no doubt 2019 is set to be the best season yet at the premier facility. Kicking off the season will be the Kendall Oil winged sprint cars, IMCA modifieds, IMCA sport mods, Bobbios mini stocks and the JOAT Labs hornets.
After a strong turn out for practice last Saturday there is a buzz surrounding Southern Oregon Speedway that has all of Oregon and a strong portion of Northern California talking. The Kendall Oil sprint cars are loaded with young talent coming into the season and after watching last week's practice, they are expected to flex some muscle from the first drop of the green flag. Eureka California driver Anissa Curtice showed in practice she loves nothing more than slinging dirt and passing the boys. Her lap times showed she has the skills of a proven sprint car pilot to get the job done and one thing is for sure when practice ended, people were talking about the #8C. To say the least the young lady made her presence known. Enrique Jaime is another young gun to keep your eyes on as he attacked the track with precision and laid down the fastest laps of the sprint cars in attendance. Jared Hood and TJ Winningham are also a solid part of the future of sprint cars on the West Coast helping lead the way for the next generation of young talent. David Marble the lone veteran at practice isn't someone you want to sleep on. Marble had his car dialed in and was putting the power on the ground and if the young guns were paying attention, they know they're going to have their hands full at the season opener this Saturday night. They better come with guns blazing, David Marble certainly is as he's looking to add his name to the winners list early on. Tanner Holmes will be another young rising star to watch this season. He is expected to challenge for wins and be a serious threat for the title.
IMCA modifieds are another division on the card and they are looking to keep their presence strong at S.O.S Zach Fettinger and Brian Bowman both appeared to be in mid season form at last Saturday's shakedown. Any and all comers are in for a real battle when these two drivers unload at the season opener. 2019 is shaping up to be great for the modified division. August 31st and the following day September 1st Southern Oregon Speedway fans will witness the biggest modified showdown in the West at the $5,000 to win R. Charles Snyder Salute. Big money draws big talent and there is no doubt that show will draw the biggest names in the game on the West Coast. Oregon's top talent will be in full force along with California's best like Troy Foulger, Alex Stanford, Robby Sawyer and Bobby Hogge will all be in the house to take a shot at one of the all time Southern Oregon Speedway greats who has committed the season to hunting down a record tying eighth track championship, Mark Wauge.
IMCA sport mods are rumored to be the strongest division with car count and they definitely showed that the division will be represented well. Last Saturday's practice the sport mods had the highest count of all classes on hand. A division bursting with talent and guaranteed to provide race fans with high levels of excitement and adrenaline, the anticipation is great for the sport mods and race fans are in for a real treat when these guys turn it loose Saturday night. Mike Medel has made it crystal clear he is intending to walk away at seasons end with the track championship hardware in hand but to do so he will have to deal with some bad company with the likes of Jorddon Braaten, Joby Shields, Scott Rule, Steve Lysinger, Brandon Wilson and Brian Knorr all of whom were in attendance with the exception of Braaten.
The mini stocks and hornets are also set to open their season this weekend. Another division that had a strong count at last weekends practice session were the hornets. One thing is for sure after watching this division at practice, these guys and gals are one hundred percent ready to duke it out this weekend. A bit of a family rivalry developed with the Nelson gang during their sessions on the track.
The father son duo went door to door like big money was on the line and they left the many fans in attendance for practice looking forward to last lap of the hornet feature this Saturday night.
It's been a long, cold winter but the racing action this weekend is guaranteed to get things hot! Come join us for Oregon's best dirt track racing!
