Southern Oregon Speedway Releases 2019 Schedule

White City, Oregon...The 24th season of operation is just around the corner for Southern Oregon Speedway. Promoter Mike McCann of KJE Enterprises just released the 2019 schedule, and his fourth season at the helm of the speedway offers all of the signature races the fans have come to expect and a few surprises.

Once again, the speedway will run championship point seasons for the Winged Sprint Cars, IMCA Modifieds, Late Models, IMCA Sport Modifieds, Late Model Lites, Mini Stocks and Hornets. The speedway will also host several races for the Southern Oregon Dwarf Cars and OTRO Hardtops along with a few other special attractions.

Since the speedway opened in 1996, a track champion has been crowned every year in the IMCA Modified and Mini Stock divisions. Last season, David Steele turned in a stellar performance with nine wins and two seconds in 11 starts to claim his first Mini Stock title at his home track. Albert Gill claimed his third IMCA Modified championship in the last five years. Once again, the IMCA Modifieds have three signature events with extra purse money on the line.

Two divisions that continue to grow stronger are the Winged Sprint Cars and IMCA Sport Modifieds. The Sport Modifieds had bigger car counts than any of the other local championship divisions and had a great battle last season, won by David Marble. There will be two special extra money races for the division. Likewise, the Winged Sprint Cars will have a big extra money event with wing and without once again. It was David Hibbard claiming his first local track championship on the strength of five wins and two seconds during the first seven races last season.

The Late Model Lites and Hornets offer two other styles of four cylinder racing. The Late Model Lites are among the fastest cars at the speedway, and Charlie Eaton won his first championship last season with three feature wins. The Hornets continue bringing talented new competitors to the speedway, and Bree Tritchler was both champion and the top rookie last season with one win and five seconds.

The Southern Oregon Dwarf Cars will run the bulk of their races here this season. Car count continued to rise last season, offering the fans exciting and competitive races every time they were in town. Josh King won his third series championship in a very close five-car battle to the end. He was a two-time winner during the season.

In their fourth season at the speedway, the Late Models are poised for some big things this year. Some big announcements are forthcoming, but one thing can be revealed. The August 24th Cottonwood Classic will pay $4,000 to win. Several top drivers are looking to make Southern Oregon Speedway their home track this season. This could present a challenge to John Dees, who won a close championship battle with Nathan Augustine on the strength of one feature win and five second place finishes.

The 2019 season will kick off with the Spring Buster event on May 4th, offering Winged Sprint Cars, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds, Mini Stocks and Hornets. In recent seasons, racers have been calling for special playdays to test and tune their race cars. Unfortunately, unfavorable weather has caused the cancellation of those preseason events in each of the past three years. McCann has booked playdays for both April 13th and 27th to give racers an opportunity to sort things out before the season begins.

The first special event takes place on Memorial Day Weekend, May 25th. This will be the Third Annual Disorder On The Southern Border event for The Iron Giant Street Stock Series. Joining them in an action-packed program will be the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds, Late Model Lites, Southern Oregon Dwarf Cars and OTRO Hardtops.

The hits keep coming with the 7th Annual Roger Haudenshild Tribute race on June 1st. IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Sport Modifieds will be joined by the first of three scheduled appearances for the Calculated Comfort Outlaw Pro Stocks. Late Models and Southern Oregon Dwarf cars make this another event you won't want to miss.

On the heels of the successful Malicious Monster Truck Tour event last year, the Monster Trucks have been booked for June 8th and 9th. The event will be presented by Dave's Carpet and Vinyl Liquidators of Medford.  June 22nd will be the annual IMCA Wild West Speedweek event, featuring IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds and Southern Oregon Dwarf Cars.

July 6th is Veterans Night, meaning all active and retired military personnel with valid ID get in free. The Winged Sprint Cars will be featured that night along with Late Models, Late Model Lites, Mini Stocks and Hornets. The following week will be Pepsi Bike Night, which offers bike giveaways and free admission for kids and features Calculated Comfort Outlaw Pro Stocks, Late Model Lites, Mini Stocks, Hornets and OTRO Hardtops. Willamette Valley Bank Night returns on July 20th with Winged Sprint Cars, Late Models, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds and Southern Oregon Dwarf Cars.

August will be a month filled with special races that you won't want to miss. The Third Annual Herz Precision Parts Cascade Wingless Sprint Car Challenge race kicks things off on the 3rd with a special $3,500 to win Wingless Sprint Car race. Late Models, Late Model Lites and Southern Oregon Dwarf Cars are also on the bill.

A week later, it's the Second Annual Ironhead Nationals, offering $2,000 to win for the Winged Sprint Cars. IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds, Mini Stocks and Hornets will make this another great show. The 3rd Annual Hall Of Fame Night happens on August 17th with a program featuring Late Models, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds, Mini Stocks and Hornets.

On the 24th, it's perhaps the biggest paying Late Model show in Southern Oregon Speedway history. It's the Cottonwood Classic, and the Late Models will compete for $4,000 to win. Winged Sprint Cars will be there along with Mini Stocks, Hornets, Late Model Lites and OTRO Hardtops.

Labor Day Weekend on August 31st and September 1st means it's time for the 3rd Annual R Charles Snyder Salute. IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds and Southern Oregon Dwarf Cars will be there both nights with the Pro Stocks joining the show on September 1st. That night will also feature a $5,000 to win IMCA Modified Main Event.

The season winds down with Championship Night events on September 7th and 14th in which champions will be crowned in all of the regular divisions. It promises to be another great season on the 3/10 mile clay oval. Lots of big things are in the works, and you can find out more at the track's Facebook page or at www.southernoregonspeedway.com.
