Holmes Scores First Career Kendall Oil Winged Sprint Car Win At Southern Oregon Speedway

White City, Oregon...September 8...Tanner Holmes won his first career 25 lap Kendall Oil Winged Sprint Car Main Event Saturday night at Southern Oregon Speedway. Just a few weeks earlier, Holmes finished second in the first ever Week Of Speed Series. Holmes finished second in the six lap Scramble and used his outside front row starting position to lead every lap of the Main Event for the impressive win.

The Sprint Cars had two eight lap heat races, and Holmes won his race ahead of 2009 division champion Charlie Thompson. Past Cottage Grove champion Hedge Carter won the other heat race in front of Merissa Henson. The Top 3 finishers in each heat race ran a six lap Scramble to set the first three rows of the Main Event, and Thompson won that race ahead of Holmes. Aaron Miller arrived after the heat races, and Holmes charged into the early lead in the Main Event, followed by Thompson and Bailey Hibbard. A lap two red flag waved when Blaine Corey and Jeffrey Hudson tangled exiting Turn 2 and flipped to end the race for both drivers. Holmes continued to lead Thompson and Bailey Hibbard on the restart. Steve Thompson spun in Turn 3 for a lap eight caution flag. Holmes continued to set the pace when racing resumed ahead of Charlie Thompson and Hibbard, but Thompson suddenly pitted into the infield off the front stretch on lap 18 as Bailey Hibbard was now second ahead of Carter. Holmes set a rapid pace for the victory. Bailey Hibbard used his second place finish to move into the third in the standings. Carter would finish third, followed by new division champion and David Hibbard, Henson, TJ Winningham, Enrique Jaime, Steve Thompson, Charlie Thompson and Miller.

Though David Hibbard has the championship locked up, there is still a three-car battle for second. The Kendall Oil Winged Sprint Cars return for Championship Night #2 on September 22nd, along with the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds, Calculated Comfort Outlaw Pro Stocks and OTRO Hardtops.  For further information, go to www.southernoregonspeedway.com.

Foote Wins Second Late Model Main Event
At Southern Oregon Speedway

White City, Oregon...September 8...Dave Foote scored his second 20 lap Late Model Main Event win Saturday night at Southern Oregon Speedway. He picked up a heat race win earlier in the evening and used his front row starting position to deny Bob Dees a potential clean sweep. The win keeps Foote in contention for a Top 3 position heading into this week's point finale for the division.

Foote started his evening by holding off Josh Sim to win his six lap heat race. Bob Dees won the other heat ahead of Miles Deubert. Bob Dees held off Foote to win the four lap Trophy Dash. Dees and Foote shared the front row of the Main Event, and Foote charged into the lead at the start of what would be a non-stop race. Bob Dees settled into second ahead of Miles Deubert. Dave Everson began to smoke just a little bit and pitted on lap seven. By lap 10, Foote held a straightaway advantage over Bob Dees, and Deubert used a low pass in Turn 4 of the 12th lap to take second. Dees began to fall off the pace a little bit as a Sim passed him in Turn 4 for third on 15. On lap 17, championship contender John Dees made the pass on his father for fourth, and point leader Nathan Augustine was in fifth a lap later. Foote maintained a straightaway advantage by the waving of the checkered flag. Deubert kept his championship hopes alive with a second place finish, followed by Sim, John Dees, Bob Dees, Everson and Mike Linder.

Steele Clinches Bobbio's Pizza Mini Stock Championship
With Ninth Win At Southern Oregon Speedway

White City, Oregon...September 8...David Steele clinched the Bobbio's Pizza Mini Stock championship with his ninth 20 lap Main Event win Saturday night at Southern Oregon Speedway. All he needed to do was take the green flag to assure himself the championship, but Steele would use his front row starting position to lead every lap of the Main Event in victory.

Steele won his six lap heat race ahead of rookie Ashtin Hedges, and 2014 champion Gary Andersen outran Hunter Magnan to win the second heat race. Anderson continued his momentum by holding off Steele to win the four lap Trophy Dash. Steele and Anderson shared the front row of the Main Event, and Steele charged into the lead ahead of Magnan and Anderson. A lap one red flag waved after contact between newcomer Scott Yerges and Garrett Fredrickson on the frontstretch sent Fredrickson into the front wall. Steele led the restart before another quick yellow flag flew on lap two. Steele led Magnan and Anderson on the restart. An inside pass on the frontstretch of the fourth lap gained Steve Goetz the third position as Steele began to pull away from Magnan. By lap nine, Steele held a straightaway advantage on Magnan, and Hedges used an inside pass on lap 13 to take fourth from Anderson. Fredrickson stalled on the track moments after the white flag waved, and a yellow flag soon followed. Steele would not be deterred as he led the final lap for the impressive victory. Magnan used his fourth second place finish to put himself in a good position to finish second in the standings. Goetz took the checkered flag in third, followed by Hedges, Anderson, Michael McLeod, Yerges, Fredrickson and Kristopher Mix.

At Southern Oregon Speedway

The win gave him a better hold on third in the standings. He set a rapid pace in the non-stop event and won by over half a lap ahead of a season-best second place finish for Dylan Sauer.

Jenna Hedges won the first six lap heat race ahead of Wonsyld. Sauer won his heat race ahead of championship hopeful Tim Hedges. Dylan Irving outran Wonsyld for his division-leading fourth four lap Trophy Dash win. Jenna Hedges led the first two laps of the Main Event, and Wonsyld slipped past Sauer for second on lap two. An inside pass on the front stretch of the third lap gained Wonsyld the lead, and he steadily pulled away from the pack from there. Jenna Hedges held second, but Sauer got past her in traffic on lap 13. By then, Wonsyld held a half a lap advantage. Wonsyld was never really threatened as he scored the convincing victory ahead of Sauer, Jenna Hedges and Irving. At Little Southern Oregon Speedway

White City, Oregon...September 7...Friday night brought a close to the 2018 Outlaw Kart championship season at little Southern Oregon Speedway. 2017 champion Trevor Grimes picked up his fourth 20 lap 250 Kart Main Event win, but Vinny DeBenedetti used a second place finish to win the division championship. Grimes picked up wins in both heat races and led two laps of the Main Event before a Turn 4 pass gained Taylor Fuller the lead. Fuller held the point until lap nine when Grimes and Fuller got together and crashed in Turn 4. The race was over for Fuller, and Blake Boshart had the lead on the restart. Grimes moved past DeBenedetti for second on the back stretch on lap 13. Grimes brushed the Turn 2 wall, and moments later DeBenedetti spun in Turn 2 for a caution flag. Boshart continued to lead Grimes on the restart, and Grimes made an inside pass in Turn 3 to gain the lead before Boshart spun in Turn 4. Grimes led the rest of the way with DeBenedetti chasing him in second. Boshart settled for third ahead of Fuller.

Lori Fuller won both of the heat races and the 12 lap UAS Speedway Kart Main Event to overtake the absent Steve Rambo for the division championship.
