Ensign Wins $3,000 In Sprint Car Race
At Southern Oregon Speedway

White City, Oregon...August 26...Geoff Ensign won the $3,000 prize in the Cascade Wingless 360 Sprint Car Challenge Saturday night at Southern Oregon Speedway.  Ensign teamed with famed San Francisco Bay Area car owner Ten Finkenbinder, and he won the eight lap Scramble to grab the pole for the Main Event.  Ensign charged into the lead at the start of the big race and built a half lap lead by the time a lap 16 caution flag flew for debris on the front stretch.  Just a lap got scored after the restart when a crash on the back stretch sent Sterling Kane flipping.  Kyler Barraza made a pit stop after that incident, but he flipped on the back stretch in a spectacular ball of flames.  Barraza was not injured.  Ensign led the restart and scored the big victory.  Cody Fendley held off Kyle Miller in a close race for second as Steve Hix and Jake Wheeler rounded out the Top 5.

Randy Hansen won his second straight Valley Stor-All Late Model Lites Main Event.  Trophy Dash winner Hansen took the lead on the opening lap.  Point leader Bob Burkett took second from Charlie Eaton on lap four, but Hansen was so far ahead that he saw the second place battle ahead of him.  Hansen crossed the line in first with Burkett a distant second.  Eaton, Eric Aos and Bill Spencer completed the Top 5.

David Steele turned in another impressive performance in winning his fourth 20 lap Mini Stock Main Event.  Steele won his six lap heat race and led all 20 laps to win the Main Event.  The opening lap saw title contenders Michael Johnson and Kristopher Mix crash off the back stretch.  They both made the restart and Johnson had second by lap eight before brushing the front wall and getting a right rear flat tire on lap ten.  Steele led the rest of the race ahead of Steve Goetz, Mix, Andrew Hall and Dillen Lausen.

Jason Stoutenburgh won his third straight JOAT Labs Hornets Main Event and took a big step towards the championship in the process.  Stoutenburgh raced into the lead at the start and built a straightaway lead by the time the checkered flag flew.  Derrel Nelson Jr. battled Dylan Irving for second for several laps before claiming the position on lap seven.  Irving finished a season best third ahead of Brandon Wonsyld and Trophy Dash winner Jenna Hedges.

Racing resumes next Saturday and Sunday with the R. Charles Snyder Salute.  The IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds and SODCA Dwarf Cars are all competing.  Sunday's IMCA Modified Main Event will pay $5,000 to the winner.  For further information, go to www.southernoregonspeedway.com.
