Lauer Scores Speedweek Victory
At Southern Oregon Speedway
White City, Oregon...June 24...Danny Lauer won the 35 lap IMCA Modified Main Event Saturday night at Southern Oregon Speedway. The past Santa Maria Speedway champion took the lead from Ethan Dotson on lap four and withstood the challenge of Dotson through lap 18. Reigning track champion Mark Wauge took over second at that point, only to surrender the position to John Campos. Campos gave it a good effort in second, but he was no match for the flying Lauer. Collen Winebarger made a late pass on Wauge to finish third, and B Main winner Nick Trenchard finished fifth.
Brian Cooper emerged with the IMCA Sport Modified win after post race tech inspection. Jorddon Braaten started his night with wins in his heat race and the Fast Dash. Luck of the draw of the Top 6 from the heat races put Braaten on the pole. He led the non stop event from the waving of the green flag to the checkered flag. Reigning California State champion Brian Cooper wasn't too far behind Braaten in second, and that became a win after post race tech inspection of Braaten's heads. Brother Todd Cooper battled Rich McCoy to grab what would become a second place finish. Two time track champion Dwayne Melvin and Jimmy Ford rounded out the Top 5.
Brock Peters wrapped up a clean sweep with his win in 20 lap Dwarf Car Main Event. It was his second win of the season and paid $1,000 thanks to the sponsorship of Jim Nelson. The leader of each lap won an additional $50, and for 17 laps, that driver was Camden Robustelli. B. Peters had passed his son Cody Peters for second on lap 16, and Robustelli lost power on the back stretch a lap later. Reigning champion B. Peters led the restart and brought it home to a satisfying victory ahead of C. Peters, Chad Cardoza, Rob Gergel and Randy Slater.
Racing resumes next week with Kendall Oil Winged Sprint Cars on the card along with Late Models, Pro Stocks, Mini Stocks, JOAT Labs Hornets and OTRO Hardtops. For further information, go to www.southernoregonspeedway.com.
